Mykonos Vioma was established in 1994 as the result of Nikos Asimomytis’ dream to engage with Mykonos' productive tradition. He abandoned Athens - and his career as a bank inspector- and returned to his fatherland.

A bit of history...
The family plots at the regions of Marathi and Koumiri had been this project’s starting point. Later on, an abandoned 3,6 hectares vineyard was leased from the monastery of Panaghia Tourliani in Ano Mera, and then rejuvenated. Except for the wine, we produce vinegar, vine leaves, grape’s molasses, table-grapes and honey.

The vineyard was rejuvenated by planting traditional Aegean-sea varieties: Asyrtiko, Athiri, Monemvasia, Malagouzia, Agiannitis and Mandilaria.

The arrangement of the vines in the field is linear with a distance of two meters in between the vine roots and among the cultivating rows. The yield is small, just 3500 kg/hectare; the two basic reasons are because the plants are kept low due to the strong winds and because they are not irrigated, therefore finding moisture in the atmosphere -mostly carried by the sea breeze- and in the soil through their roots.

The cultivation is organic, bio-dynamic, based on the principles of Rudolph Steiner. Thanks to the microclimate of the region –strong north winds and lack of water- and due to the rich ingredients of the soil, remaining free of chemicals, pesticides and intensive cultivation, we produce healthy grapes of a superior taste and quality. The traditional Aegean-sea grape varieties are naturally compatible with these conditions. Weeds are eliminated and the soil is fertilized with the co-operation of the farm animals.

Classical music is played through speakers around the field to accompany both visitors and employees in their daily duties. Studies show that plants, and especially grapes, correspond very positively to good quality music and become healthy and vigorous.

Τhe farm is home to 20 bee-hives producing pure honey. Other members of the farm family are the dogs, cats, goats, chicken, turkeys, rabbits and our celebrities Marika the donkey and Marousso the sheep, which all together make it a dream place for children.
In the garden, we grow organic seasonal vegetables and Mediterranean herbs. At the traditional wood-oven we rejoice in baking bread and food for the family in the old fashion.

The farm can be visited for tours and wine or local products tasting.
